EMBATTLED former FUFA president Denis Obua, on remand at Luzira prison, has finally secured a judge to hear his bail application.

Justice Remmy Kasule of the High Court is slated to preside over the hearing today after Obua’s lawyers Fred Makada and Patrick Furah managed to convince the registrar of courts to have the remanded Obua produced in court.

By yesterday afternoon, a production warrant for Obua’s bail had been sent to Luzira Prison authorities to produce him in court today. The lawyers had tried to get a judge to hear the application since last week but non was available.

Obua, who is accused of embezzling sh116m federation funds is reportedly admitted to Luzira Prison’s sick bay over various body complications.

His lawyers yesterday said in addition to bail being their client’s constitutional right, Obua suffers serious illness and is of advanced age.

However, when prosecution was contacted about the development, Fred Muwema on private prosecution, said he had not been served with the bail application.

For ex-secretary Haruna Mawanda, who has not yet taken plea to his charges, Makada said that he would most likely produce him in court tomorrow and after which they will work on his bail.

Obua and Mawanda are jointly charged with embezzling the money and causing a financial loss to the federation. Obua claims the missing funds were for facilitation and has to prove so.

Save Our Soccer (SOS), a pressure group spearheaded the struggle to rid the country’s local soccer governing body of corruption leading to the prosecution of Obua and Mawanda.
