KAMPALA — Petrol prices jumped by sh120 to sh1,890 per litre yesterday, the single largest increase in more than year, due to high international prices and a depreciating shilling. “Our exchange rate has been depreciating in the last few days,” said Shell Uganda chief Ivan Kyayonka. Diesel rose to sh1,640 from sh1,550 and Kerosene to sh1,600 from sh1,450.

ANKARA, Wednesday - A Turkish town that was once home to early Christians has sent soil to be placed in the grave of Pope John Paul II, the local mayor said Wednesday. Bekir Odemis said they had invited the pope but the visit never materialised due to his poor health.
