MPS will vote by rollcall and tally while debating constitutional amendments.
This follows the House’s adoption of a motion for the open voting method on Wednesday.

After a debate on a motion by Bbaale county MP Sulaiman Madada, 109 MPs voted in favour, with only nine members against. Patrick Mwonda and Latif Ssebaggala abstained.

Freddie Ruhindi (Nakawa), who stood in for the rules, privileges and discipline committee chairman Ben Wacha, voted against the motion.

MPs will now be called by their names and constituencies to which they will answer yes or no, before the clerk ticks their names, indicating their position.

The House also rejected a proposal by the committee, requiring a two-thirds majority vote at house committee stage.
The Constitution requires the two-thirds only at the second and third readings of a Bill.

Jacob Oulanyah said the two-thirds majority at committee stage should be examined closely, in keeping up with the spirit of the constitution.
