MARTHA Akiteng is the newly crowned beauty queen of Makerere University Business School. She won the pageant which ran under the theme, African Women: Beauty and Intelligence with an Enterprenual Vision. She recently spoke about herself and her new role.

How does it feel to be regarded as the most beautiful young woman at MUBS?
Overwhelming! I have never wanted to be looked up to as an object of beauty because it leaves me estranged from former friends. But this comes with the role I’ve chosen. So, I must be comfortable with it.

What’s on your agenda, Miss MUBS?
I hope to make the ABC (Abstain, Be faithful or Use a condom) programme more vibrant. I will advocate for girl-child education and do all I can to improve orphaned students’ welfare.

Are you trying to emulate any famous personalities?
Yes! The First Lady, Janet Museveni and the Queen of Buganda, Lady Sylvia Nagginda. I believe I can play a better role following in their footsteps.

Briefly take us through your background.
I was born in Ngora, Kumi district in 1985 to Mr and Mrs Peter John Ngodia. I grew up in a family of 19 children.
My mother is a professional tailor while father is a businessman. I went to Homisdarlen and Nakasero primary schools and St Noa Girls SS and St. Mary’s College Kitende for O’ and A’ Levels respectively before joining MUBS for a bachelor’s degree in Office and Information Management.

What were you like as little Martha?
Oh! Very talkative! My sisters used to call me skinny. But I always wanted to do everything they did. I once asked my elder sister to tell me what trick she used to grow pimples. (Laughs)

What have been the best moments of your life so far?
When I was crowned as the Miss MUBS. I shared the joy with my mother because she had designed my creative and evening wear.

Any other idea of bliss?
Lying on the beach while reading a fashion magazine. I also enjoy swimming and travelling.

Take us through your style.
I am most comfortable with long-skirts, fitting tops and stilettos of matching colour. I dislike micro miniskirts and basketball sneakers.

Name your desert island essentials.
A bible and a bikini

What would you eat for your last supper and with whom?
I would have fried fish with my mother.

If you were about to be executed, would you choose to see a priest or a pimp?
A priest to guide me through my last journey.

WITH stunning looks, a 5.6 feet height, a killer smile, intelligence and perfect body proportions, Martha Akiteng, the new Miss MUBS is no doubt every man’s dream girl. Her well-calculated smile will give you a warm welcome, while her eloquence will definitely knock you off your feet. “I am single and not searching. My focus is set on completing my studies,” says Akiteng. She encourages the youth to abstain, stressing abstinence as the only sure remedy to the rampant HIV/AIDS among the youth today.

Akiteng, a first year Bachelor of Entrepreneurship student was crowned Miss MUBS on March 19.

Besides her entrepreneurial professional ambitions, Akiteng is determined to transform MUBS into a powerful tertiary institution by publicising the institute in secondary schools and other lower institutions of learning. She also expresses concern over women emancipation and the education of the girl child in the country.
“I will use my office to publicise my school among village schools and put MUBS on a higher platform. Most students down there either don’t know or have less knowledge about the quality of education offered at MUBS,” she says.
“I will also join the fight against Aids through the promotion of the ABC programme just like the first lady Janet Museveni,” she says.
