SIR — On April 2, you published a letter by Mr Ntegye Asiimwe entitled “Are these ethics unique to Mulago?”

Asiimwe was questioning the Mulago Hospital decision to ban journalists from taking pictures inside the hospital.

Management wishes to inform the public that the decision was taken as a reminder and the only way of ensuring that Mulago maintains the highest levels of confidentiality about patients’ privacy and did not concern Mulago alone but all other hospitals.

Mulago Hospital is a national referral hospital and as such has the mandate to speak on issues of professionalism on behalf of all sister hospitals.

In all hospitals worldwide, patients’ photographs and interviews conducted in any hospital by the press have to be sanctioned by the administration of the hospital in question.
