They missed out on a medal but Uganda’s swimming team wrote the national freestyle relay record at the inaugural World Islamic Games yesterday. The team were all smiles after completing the race in 5th place. It was the first time the team competed in the relay on the international scene. “We might have not won but the fact that we set a maiden record gives us hope,†said swimmer George Kasozi. The team also had Isaac Nakabale, George William Mukasa and Marx Kanyerezi. The games in Saudi Arabia attracted 6,500 athletes from 54 Muslim nations for a sporting festival aimed at projecting a more positive image of Islam to the world. Scandinavian Express Service, Rio Insurance and the organisers funded Uganda’s trip. Ends
