TRANSPORT in Kyotera and Kalisizo towns in Rakai district was on Thursday paralysed when the traffic Police impounded over 60 motorcycles (bodaboda) from riders who lacked helmets.
Rakai traffic Police chief constantine Tarasi said they would impound about 200 bikes because most operators had refused to buy the helmets as required by law.
He said, “These (the 60 bikes) are very few. We shall impound all of them in case the operators refuse to but helmets.”
Tarasi said he warned the cyclists about buying helmets but they did not respond to his appeal.
He said some of the bikes had no number plates.
“I think some of these bodabodas are stolen because they do not have number plates yet they are old,” he said.
