CHINA has listed Uganda as one of 11 official tourist destinations in Africa where Chinese tourists can visit.

The move is expected to give a big boost to Uganda’s tourism, which stands at 400,000 visitors a year.

The country projects an earning of US$500m from tourism due to the increase of tourists, said tourism state minister Jovino Akaki.

Akaki told journalists on Thursday that Uganda would identify Chinese-speaking Ugandans to put out publications in Chinese to cater for the tourists.

China sends out 29 million tourists to 66 countries with whom the populous country signed memoranda of understanding for tourism.

Akaki said negotiations for direct flights from China to Entebbe were ongoing.

Ambassador Philip Idro is leading the Ugandan team to the negotiations.
