Hanging out is definitely fun and many look up to the onset of the weekend, although not many will have a concrete programme for it. How about giving yourself a sports treat?
Those who have been there before will tell you that a weekend out on a sports adventure guarantees unlimited excitement for all age groups in the family.
The fun sports today are in abundance. Right from equator rafting, bowling, bungy jumping, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking and horse riding, the adventure sports are all there at quite user-friendly prices.
Equator rafting at the Speke resort at Bujagali falls in Jinja has caught up well with the populace and most families, lately, are taking to the Nile waters for the subsidised family-floating trip. “The response to equator rafting on the Nile is tremendous. Both expatriates and the locals are booking in droves. As such, we have reduced our rates and a full day raft trip costs $75 and $110 for the family floating trip, which encompasses two adults and three children,†a sales man at the Kampala booking office says.
On the banks of River Nile, just close to Bujagali falls is another adventure sport, quad biking, which is run by All Terrain Adventures, Uganda.
Peter Knight, the manager, says many people have shown enthusiasm towards quad biking and some camp for more than a week. He says besides quad biking, they have added multi-day camping safaris for all the families.
Alley bowling at Alleygators Bowling Alley, Garden city has fast turned into a crowd puller, especially for family and individuals on weekends.
Chris Ireland, the manager, says with only sh6,000, one has access to over 20 throws. He adds that bowling can be played excellently by a six-year-old, as would a 70-year-old.
Other popular sports, fast attracting the crowds include: flying lessons at the Kampala Aero club flight training center, sailing at Entebbe sailing club, swimming at the numerous pools in the country or better still trying out golf or football.
