KAYUNGA mayor Elizabeth Nabbanja has asked the inspectorate of Government (IGG) to investigate corruption and abuse of office by officials in the town council.
She said civil servants illegally received sitting allowances during council meetings.
“It is illegal for a civil servant to get sitting allowances. They are only for councillors,’’ she said.
Nabanja was on Friday addressing journalists at the town council offices.
She cited vendors in Kayunga market who pay revenue to the council but are not given receipts.
“I have received information that top officers award themselves tenders that include collecting garbage,’’ she said.
Nabanja accused authorities of failing to account for sh25m collected from the Kayunga park.
