ABOUT sh65b is required to facilitate the research and development of tourism and trade operations.

Tourism minister David Migereko on Thursday told the parliamentary committee on tourism, trade and industry chaired by Margaret Ateng (Lira woman) that the money would enable the ministry to fulfil its priorities.

Citing the last year’s proposal to merge the Uganda Investment Authority, the Uganda tourist Board and the Uganda Export Promotion Board, Migereko said there were no resources to meet the merger.

“We are depending on donations for our teams engaged in various trade negotiations,” he said.

The permanent secretary, Sam Nahamya and 11 other officials from the ministry, flanked Migereko, who was reacting to concerns raised by the committee over the midterm expenditure framework for 2005/2006.

He said resources were needed to develop linkages at the grassroots.
Nahamya said the ministry would do better if it had resources.

“When we budget, sometimes a crisis emerges in the middle of the implementation. But if we were given these resources, we would perform better,” Nahamya said.
