RWANDA-based Ugandan coach Jackson Mayanja yesterday attacked club officials condemning him for the exodus of Ugandan players to Rwanda.

Mayanja, who acknowledged receiving Villa’s latest deserters Joseph Kabagambe and Augustine Nsumba at Kiyovu, pointed out that the moves were only taken to liberate players’ careers from demise in Uganda.

“Kabagambe and Nsumba left complaining of non-payment and mistreatment by their coach. I did not pick them from Villa park,” Mayanja, on holiday said.

“Players were leaving before I joined Kiyovu. It’s going to continue because such young players have to earn a living.”

He however denied signing them. “Not as yet but if I get the chance I will”.

Kiyovu are second in the Rwanda league behind Rayon Sport.
In South Africa, David Obua’s Kaizer Chiefs closed the gap on table-leaders Orlando Pirates with a 1-0 victory over Wits University in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

The result moved the Amakhosi level on points with second-placed Sundowns.

In a related development, Chiefs have withdrawn from the CAF Confederation Cup due to the congestion of their local fixtures.
World football body FIFA has, meanwhile, reiterated its commitment to resolving controversies in the local body, FUFA.

This is contained in a letter to education and sports minister Namirembe Bitamazire by FIFA assistant secretary Jerome Champagne in reply to an April 18 one by Bitamazire. She wanted FIFA to publicise the report by its three-man team that visited after the February suspension of the FUFA executive.

Champagne wants to meet the minister when FIFA officials visit May 11-13 to inaugurate the Sekajugo normalisation committee.

In Kenya, KFF is headed for more trouble after Fifa Monday unleashed a stinging indictment of the body’s administration.

FIFA assistant secretary general Champagne said in a statement that the recruitment of KFF secretary was flawed.
