So, for example, in the past a package weighing 10kg would have cost sh90,700 now it costs sh322,100.
This is more than three and a half times the previous cost! You could argue that it is okay for a mzungu sending things back to the US, but what about ordinary Ugandans?
We have been trying to develop a small business for Ugandan crafts for a women’s group in Kasese.
Without a doubt, they will not manage these outrageous rates. so an export market is lost, however tiny.
The people who made these rate changes must be the same ones who decided the new fees for the national parks.
I think Uganda needs a few trained economists so that they can stop “shooting themselves in the foot†with pricing decisions.
Instead of these endless debates about third term or sciences against arts, people should learn some basic pricing analysis.
