IT is a straight battle between the two deadliest marksmen at the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship when the semi-finals start today.

Villa striker Bernard Mwalala and Mtibwa Sugar’s Abubakar Mkwanga will not only be battling to secure the top scorer’s award, but also shoot their sides into the final at CCM Kirumba stadium. Mwalala is however stressing team work ahead of the encounter.

“I know it won’t be easy but my target is two goals. Villa’s winning is more important than my being top scorer so I will also work hard to set up others to score,” said Mwalala.

Mwalala has grabbed four goals in four games while Mkwanga has snatched five.

The Tanzanian international talked tough. “Lazima nifunge awo (I must score against them),” Mkwanga said.

Coach Sam Timbe will maintain the starting line-up that he fielded in the first two games of the tournament.
“Mtibwa is a dangerous team. We will fight hard for victory,” Timbe said.

Defenders Samad Mutumba, Godfrey Kateregga and Simeon Masaba have recovered from injuries and impressed at yesterday's training session.

Mwalala who was unwell on Sunday night has also recovered.

The CECAFA club champion will win $30,000 (sh54m), the runners up $20000 (sh36m) and third team settles for $10000 (sh18m).

Meanwhile, Tanzania champions Simba SC reacted to their ejection from the tournament by sacking six players including two Ugandans.
Alex Ndugga and Abbas Kyewalabye were sacked on Sunday.
