A tale of counter-petitions continued to rock the Coca-Cola Schools Cup yesterday with Old Kampala SSS being ruled out of the quarterfinals for fielding an ineligible player.

The former champions were brought down after St. Mary's Kitende who were shown the exit on similar grounds questioned the eligibility of Michael Kapi in the event.

The player was incriminated because his academic testimonials bore the names Michael Kampi Ssimbwa.

The exit of Old Kampala leaves Tororo Progressive, and Kibuli as favourites to dethrone Kitende.

But as soon as the verdict was read out, Old Kampala also counter-petitioned Kitende over the eligibility of Julius Mulindwa and Richard Luyima - a petition which is feared may bear the worst consequences for the former champions.

Despite losing 4-1 to Old Kampala in the second round, Layibi College got the right to take on and eliminate hosts Masaka SSS in the first quarterfinal yesterday.

Old Kampala becomes the fourth giant to fall. Standard High, East High are the other teams.
