Is the referendum more vital than Mulago?

SIR — Your cartoon on the Guest Writers’ page of Wednesday was spot-on. Sh22.8b is creamed off for the referendum and nothing is left for Mulago National Referral Hospital!

SIR — Your cartoon on the Guest Writers’ page of Wednesday was spot-on. Sh22.8b is creamed off for the referendum and nothing is left for Mulago National Referral Hospital! Dr. Kaggwa is begging from ‘Mr. Finance’ with an empty basket while that of the Electoral Commission is full of money.

No wonder, our visionary government can easily secure sh70m for one minister to go to France for treatment while thousands of “peasants who make vital decisions” are left to their fate.Who will vote in the referendum then? Sh2.5b is given to a Movement supporter for her precious degree at Harvard without a second thought! What is happening in this country? Are we really on course? I thank Mr Ras for that great cartoon.

SIR — It is shocking Mulago Hospital lacks sh3b for surgical treatment but nearly sh30b is lined up for a referendum which is not essential! Even if it was essential there are other ways it could be carried out without spending this obscene amount in a sea of poverty.

This is very serious because it is a demonstration that the much touted “people” are held in high esteem only when their vote is needed. This country will not be salvaged from its economic and political mire by politicians who only think about their narrow interests.

It has become common to ignore legitimate criticism by engaging in idle rhetoric by sychophants paid to do so! This situation is likely to lead the country into another round of chaos because Uganda resembles George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ more and more every passing day!
Believe me, the ‘mustard seed’ is rotting! I thank your cartoonist because such a cartoon is as good as a history book. A thousand years from now it can be used as a reference to what took place.
