Gulu is not happy with Umeme, NWSC

SIR — I am disappointed with the way Umeme and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation operate in Gulu. Almost every other day power has to go off! It is not uncommon for it to go off four or five times a day!

SIR — I am disappointed with the way Umeme and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation operate in Gulu. Almost every other day power has to go off! It is not uncommon for it to go off four or five times a day!

But what is even more disheartening is that power can go off for four days without it being restored! Umeme is either understaffed or there is need to change the current staff. I advise Umeme that the consumers are not happy with its present services.

As for NWSC, I am not sure whether by the time this letter is published Gulu will not have been declared a typhoid disaster area. It seems the NWSC Gulu branch solely depends on Umeme power to pump water to Gulu town. If this is so, then it is very unfortunate.

The planners in NWSC should consider buying a standby generator considering that Gulu town is now overpopulated due to the LRA war. Given the pressure of the population, going without water for two days is very risky for the population. Already, there are a number of reported cases of typhoid in Gulu Hospital. Water is life so you need to style up please.
