Aronda wants park ban lifted

THE Army Commander, Lt. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has called for the immediate lifting of the ban on travelling to Murchison National Park and others in Uganda.

THE Army Commander, Lt. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has called for the immediate lifting of the ban on travelling to Murchison National Park and others in Uganda.
Aronda said all the parks and other tourist attractions were secure and that the security of visitors, the tourists and all the animals was guaranteed.
“There are no rebels in the Murchison Falls National Park and all our parks are secured because we have now well trained guards to protect and provide security to our people, visitors and to the wild animals. We provide peace in all corners of Uganda,†Nyakairima said.
He said, “All travel advisories by foreign countries should be lifted today (May 21) as we pass out more 643 guards to ensure the security and safety of our parks.â€
Nyakairima was speaking at the passout of 643 UPDF and Uganda National Park guards at Kololo in Purongo subcounty, Gulu district.
He said there must be equal investment in security in the park and called for five-star hotels there.
The Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry, David Migereko, who was the chief guest, said, “The Government has a duty to protect the game, Uganda being one of the most endowed countries in Africa with wildlife.â€
Migereko said the President promised to form a special tourist protection force to ensure income from the wildlife industry.
Gulu resident district commissioner Max Omeda, Yafeso Otim Omara, the chairman board of trustees of the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the executive director UWA, Moses Mapesa attended.
