Six armed men in military wear on Saturday raided Bukiinda village in Kyangwaali sub-county, Hoima, and abducted three people, one of them the area LC1 chairman, Geoffrey Mwebesa, following a land dispute.

Residents said the armed men, whose leader wore pips of a Lieutenant, travelled in civilian-registered vehicles.

The residents said the men assaulted some people before forcing Irumba Ibara, William Birorero and Mwebesa into the vehicle and drove off.

The three victims are relatives and were still missing by press time.

The armed men told residents that Kyangwaali Police post, about 50 miles from Hoima town, was aware of their mission. resident district commissioner Martha Asiimwe and the district security officer, Lt. Frank Nyakairu, said the Police were investigating the matter.
Asiimwe said she would give details after the Police investigations.

Area MP Tom Kyahurwenda yesterday said, “I am going to follow up the matter and find out where my people have been taken and by who. Our peasants are suffering a lot due to land disputes.”

The sub-county LC3 chairperson, Sebastian Irumba, said it was becoming a habit for military men to grab land in Kyangwaali through intimidation.

Reports said the armed men spent the night in the village. Local authorities said several top government officials, including army officers, have land in Kyangwaali.

A security source said the soldiers’ vehicle crashed on the way to Kampala and is at Kakiri barracks in Wakiso district.
