WITH ten men on the national squad that is likely to travel for the World Cup qualifiers in Ireland next month, Tornado Cricket Club is already running chills down the spine of local rivals.

“Almost the entire Tornado team will be travelling for the qualifiers and they will come back when they are on form and terrorise us,” an official of Africa CC said.

Of the sixteen players to make the trip, Africa is likely to contribute four while the second Tornado side, Tornado B will provide three.

National players in the Tornado’s dream team include national skipper Joel Olweny, Michael Ndiko, Benjamin Musoke, Nehal Bibodi, and Akbar Baig. Others are Frank Nsubuga, Nand Kishor, Charles Waiswa, Patrick Ochan and Keith Legesi.

Tornado B also in the same family will provide top bowler Kenneth Kamyuka, Emmanuel Issaneez and Raymond Otim.

Tornado have lifted the Castle league for the past three seasons and won all including Luswata and Mawanda Cup competitions last year. This year they have already won the two knockout events.

In a related development, national team trials have caused a one-week delay to the start of the national league originally set for May 29.

UCA organising secretary Richard Sempa said the national squad having been beefed up by more youngsters for training, affects most of the clubs.

“Most of them now have more than three players on the national squad so the league cannot go on,” Sempa said.

Meanwhile there will be a match to bid farewell to the British High Commissioner Adam Woods between the Bagurusi XI and the British High Commission XI.

Presidential advisor on media and public relations John Nagenda and Woods will lead the two sides respectively, for the match at Lugogo on Saturday.
