JUSTINE Bayiga on Wednesday evening ran her way to next year’s Commonwealth Games when she clocked 24.24 seconds over 200m. The commonwealth qualifying time is 24.44s.
The Kampala International University (KIU) student, who was Uganda’s sole representative at Sudan’s edition of the Pan Africa AAC permit meet which was held in Khartoum on Wednesday, crossed the finishing line behind Sudan’s Newal Eljaba with Kenya’s Elizabeth Nuphuka finishing third.
She was however given a bronze medal instead of a silver at the time of crowning, but local athletics federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said that they will write to the regional headquarters and it will be rectified.
Bayiga also won a bronze medal in the 400m.
