THEY have trekked all the way from Kenya through Tanzania and are now in Rakai district, headed for namugongo Shrine to celebrate the Uganda martyrs’ day on June 3.
Over 35 Kenyan pilgrims have braved the road in remembrance of the Uganda martyrs.
One of the group members, John Masila, told The New Vision at Ssanje trading centre in Kakuuto county, Rakai, that they walked 40km a day.
“We started from Parkland in Nairobi on May 1 and walked to Mwanza, where we boarded a ship to Bukoba in Tanzania. We hope to reach namugongo on May 30,†Masila said.
He said their group comprised at least 10 women.
Masila of Nakuru diocese, who has attended the celebrations 13 times before, said other members came from kisumu, Nyawuluru, lonkonot and malaboto dioceses.
“I started this pilgrimage in 1969 with my father,†he told a crowd that gathered around the pilgrims at Ssanje.
