OYAM South MP Dr. Okullo Epak has urged his constituency to shun the coming referendum on change of political system

OYAM South MP Dr. Okullo Epak has urged his constituency to shun the coming referendum on change of political system, reports James Oloch.

Epak was addressing a Uganda People’s Congress rally at Alito sub-county in Kole, Apac district on Saturday.

He said a referendum was not necessary and was a waste of funds.

“I call upon all the people to boycott the referendum as sh30b is too much to waste on it. The money can cater for critical issues like the humanitarian needs in the displaced persons’ camps,” Epak said.

He was flanked by MPs from Apac, Ben Wacha (Oyam North), Tom Anag Odur (Kwania), Omodi Okot (Kole) and Apac Woman MP Betty Amongi Ochwa.

Epak praised the army for protecting the county but cautioned them to be neutral during elections.

He said being neutral would test the UPDF’s independence as the people’s army.

Omodi said the NRM ballot boxes would go back empty in the 2006 elections. “Let them play with your stomach but not your brain,” he said, adding that the people were suffering in camps and the Government was dishing out money to win support.
