YOUTH and child affairs minister Felix Okot Ogong has told youth leaders that sex is sweet but its enjoyment can only be savoured when they avoid getting HIV/AIDS.
Okot said abstinence from pre-marital sex and sero-status testing before marriage was the best way to fight the scourge.
“If you are not married and you want to have sex, first pray, then pick that girl or boy and get tested,†Okot said. “If you are both negative, you enjoy sex.â€
He was closing a one-day seminar for Nakasongola youth leaders at the community centre on Sunday.
Okot said indulging in sex without knowing one’s status created anxiety. “You cannot enjoy sex when you think ‘I am getting this thing (HIV)’,†he said, causing laughter.
“When you are both negative, you enjoy sex for 60 years but when you are sick you do so for only three years. So why don’t you stay safe so that even at 80 or 90 years you are still enjoying it,†he said.
