Since joining the music industry, Clay Aiken has been both a successful artiste and writer.
His song, This is the Night/Bridge over Troubled Water was the best selling single of 2003.

It spent 11 months at No.1 on the American Billboard’s Hot 100 singles sales chart.

Its first week sales were over 392,000 units, the best sales figure since Elton John’s single, Candle in the Wind in 1997.

Aiken’s Measure of a Man album sold 613,000 units during its first week, the highest first-week total for a debut artiste in over 10 years, since Snoop Dogg’s first album in 1993. It was No.1 on The Billboard 200 for two weeks, and even though it was released in the last quarter of the year, was ranked No.11 on SoundScan’s list of the best-selling albums of 2003.

He graduated in December 2003 from UNC Charlotte with a degree in special education.

In 2004, his first book, Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life, was published in hardcover by Random House and debuted at No.2 on Amazon.com one month before publication and debuted at the same number on the New York Times’ best seller, where it appeared for seven weeks.

It also debuted as best seller at Borders, Target, Barnes & Noble and Wal-Mart and is currently in its fifth printing.

Asked to write a book, Aiken declined to pen his biography at the age 25. He, instead, opted for telling inspirational stories about people who had an impact on his life, either positively or negatively, and the lessons he learnt from those experiences.

Aiken was appointed UNICEF ambassador in November 2004,
His first Christmas CD, Merry Christmas With Love, released in November 2004.

It featured some of his favourite holiday songs, including Oh Holiday Night and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and has sold over one million units.

Aiken also created the Bubel/Aiken Foundation in July 2003 to cater for children with special needs.
Aiken was voted one of the 12 Entertainers of the Year according to A&E.
