Nassanga's farewell bash
Former Miss Uganda and M-net Face of Africa hopeful, Salma Nassanga flew out to Zambia last Wednesday, for the final selection of the Face of Africa competition. On the eve of her departure, Sylvia Owori threw her a farewell bash at BJ's Irish Pub in Industrial Area.
Throughout the evening, Nassanga got tips on what to do to make it into the final.
At one point she said: "Can you imagine I have to pose with a snake and a crocodile? How will I manage that?"
Putting her arm around her shoulders, Owori told her to be confident. "You are going to boot camp. Just be yourself and all will be okay."
M-net Face of Africa takes place in July in Sun City, South Africa.

Nairobi's five-day fete
For two long years, Kenyans had waited for this day. May 21 finally came and guests from 55 countries descended upon Nairobi.
It was the International Press Institute World Congress after all.

Day one: Dinner at Nairobi Serena Hotels. The manager, Mahmud Jan Mohamed is fond of Ugandans because a Ugandan lady greeted him while kneeling. Mohammed is looking forward to hosting the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Summit at Kampala Serena Hotel when it opens next year. "You guys are so polite and wonderful," he said.

Day two: A cocktail at the Intercontinental Hotel. It was good to be a Ugandan because the respected Freedom House, the world watchman for press freedom, has consistently rated Uganda well in press freedom.

Day three: Safari Park Hotel. We were surprised to find that Kenyans know how good Ugandans are at dancing. And that is why they flew in The Ndere Troupe to entertain guests. Ndere's performance was so stunning that guests were left breathless.
Nations Media Group's Charles Onyango-Obbo said he prayed that one of the Ndere's pot carrying stunts did not backfire, sending the pots to floor.

Day four: Nyama choma at The Carnivore.
We were assured that a pride of lions, which wanted to 'attend the function' first had to scale a high fence if they were to get in.
Many of the bigwigs in Kenyan politics and business were present including opposition leader Uhuru Kenyatta.

Day five: The farewell dinner at the Bomas Ground. Everybody in the group was made a Masaai elder. This ceremony was performed by pretty Masaai girls, who welcomed us by strapping the Masaai kikoy round our necks.
