THE FUFA normalisation committee, not sure about the response if they drop Egyptian coach Mohammad Abbas (above), are instead trying to force him to quit, a source has revealed.
“I came because I like Ugandan people, but some have black hearts. The (Denis)Obua federation was good, because they did not interfere with my work,†Abbas said frankly last night.
He refused to quit.
Egypt offered the Uganda government the former El Masry coach last year on condition that he is paid an upkeep of $500 (sh0.8m) monthly.
Signs that all was not well started with the sacking of manager Asumani Lubowa and the surprise appointment of Chris Mubiru.
Strangely, Livingstone Kyobe came in as assistant coach.
Then, the national soccer team to travel to DR Congo was picked for him. When the game started, assistant Kyobe took charge , and put on striker Robert Ssejjemba for defender Shaka Okello after only 15 minutes. That did not stop DR Congo winning 4-0 win.
“Abbas was powerless. Shaka was strangely substituted for Ssejjemba even without consulting him. We have no future,†a player told New Vision yesterday.
After Cranes returned, an eyewitness, also heard Kyobe ask Abbas to quit. “Why don’t you leave our country? This is my country. This FUFA does not need you,†Kyobe reportedly yelled at Namboole.
