BRIMMING with chance-taking football, KCC FC routed hapless Mityana Utoda 4-2 in yesterday’s City Tyres Super League opener at Nakivubo, staging a reminder of the enduring class within their ranks.

Geoffrey Sserunkuuma and Hamis Kitagenda were at the heart of KCC’s success, both notching twice in the first half to propel the Lugogo side to the top of group B with three points.

Ismail Ndaula, who had opened the game’s six goal galore for Mityana, found another consolation for his side at 34 minutes — the last goal for the day.

The chastening experience however proved a reminder of the depth of danger that awaits Mityana in the group that includes Police and Victor, who settled for a point each in the other game. The other team in the group is Gulu United.

Police, organised into a shape that suited them and Victor, played with self-belief right from the start before the cops eventually took the lead in the first half through fleet-footed striker Geoffrey Masaba.
Paul Mukatabala’s late equaliser proved just a reward for the nimble defiance Victor exhibited after the break.

Defending champions SC Villa take to the pitch today for their first league match against giant killers URA FC at Namboole, while rivals Express take the three-hour drive to Masindi for a date against Kinyara FC.

All the eight teams involved today are playing their first fixtures and none would like to slip on day one, which promises thrilling encounters.

Villa, also CECAFA club champions, will however go into the match without their strikers in Kenyan Bernard Mwalala and Robert Ssentongo, said to be on a search for careers elsewhere.

This could prove costly for the Joogos, who face a URA side full of veterans and former pals at Villa park. The taxmen are under the guidance of Deo Serwadda and Phillip Obwiny and have in their ranks midfielders Joseph Mutyaba and Hood Kaweesa. Also strikers Santos Amboka, Fred Okello and Henry Kakooza can cause enough trouble for the champions.

Villa will pray that their defence of skipper Andy Mwesigwa and Samadu Mutumba holds tight.
In Masindi, a new look Red Eagles side will battle with unpredictable Kinyara for the first points in group C.

Express coach Godfrey Nyola said that he respects every team in the group. “There is no small team in this format of play,” he said.
In other matches, troubled Lugazi United travel to Mbarara while in Jinja, Kakira host Simba FC.
