A Fuel tanker transporting jet fuel exploded into flames in Iganga town on Thursday, burning down Walugogo Valley Inn and property worth millions of shillings.

The inferno that started at 3:00pm is suspected to have been caused by a mechanical problem that earlier forced the driver tanker to park by the roadside to carry out repairs.

The Police southeastern regional fire chief Olivia Wawire, said the fire was ignited by a spark as the turn-boy tried to fix a leakage on one of the tanks.

The Police fought hard to contain the fire, which continued to engulf the entire inn.

Looters had a field day as the inn burnt down. Its proprietor Charles Mukaya collapsed on hearing the news.
