BADRU Lusambya crushed South Africa’s Tshepo Mashego on Saturday and immediately announced his intention to capture the Commonwealth crown next.
‘Mr Crush’ Lusambya knocked out Mashego in the sixth round of the light middleweight African Boxing Union title defence after a thrilling night of professional boxing at Nakivubo.
Referee Godfrey Cobbal from Ghana intervened after a barrage of punches floored Mashego two minutes, 36 seconds into the sixth round.
But until that point, Mashego, had stretched the Ugandan with some long-range shots despite two early knockdowns. Three hooks and a right uppercut shook Mashego before the killer followed six unanswered shots.
“I know all my fans were worried after the third round, but I knew he couldn’t match me,” Lusambya said.
