PARLIAMENT yesterday paid tribute to the newly elected Archbishop of York, Dr. John Tucker Mugabi Sentamu, upon his ascension to second position in the Church of England.

Last week, Sentamu became the first black Archbishop. MPs said the only way to reward Sentamu was by accepting dual citizenship.

The motion to recognise Sentamu was yesterday moved by Elijah Okupa and seconded by Reagan Okumu and Perez Ahabwe.
“What do we learn from Sentamu?

He is a person who has stood for justice and tolerance. He is known as a caring pastor and an exciting communicator. He stood firm for justice and that is the reason he was harassed into exile. This is a lesson to our judiciary,” he said.

Premier Apolo nsibambi said, “We have been receiving material assistance aid from outside. It is now time for Africa to offer spiritual aid.”

Minister for General Duties Mondo kagonyera, paid tribute to Sentamu on behalf of the Government.
