THE Ugandan National Cricket team continued their winning streak here when they hammered a strong Derby City XI team by 8 wickets Wednesday evening in a Twenty/20 game to lift the Derby International Challenge Trophy.

THE Ugandan National Cricket team continued their winning streak here when they hammered a strong Derby City XI team by 8 wickets Wednesday evening in a Twenty/20 game to lift the Derby International Challenge Trophy.
Lawrence Sematimba won the man-of-the match award with a scintillating knock of 68 in just 40 balls that entertained the large crowd at the Spondon Cricket Ground, Derby. Sematimba hit the hapless Zahid for 23 in one over. The trophies were presented to the Ugandans by Lauren Dudley.
Derby City, who comprised a select list of professionals from the Derby Premier Cricket League were boosted by a powerful innings of 81 from ex-Pakistani International Naeem Akhtar. However Uganda bowled well with Isaneez (3-34), Ochan (2-23) and Kwebiiha (2-32) bowling Derby out for 154 in 18.5 overs.
Sematimba and Musoke put on 76 for the first wicket before Musoke was adjudged lbw for 24. Joel Olweni (29 not out) and Kwebiiha (11 not out) guided Uganda home in just 14 overs.
This was an impressive performance by Uganda. Their athletic fielding saved 40 runs in the field and the batting at long last is oozing confidence.
The team take on Derbyshire XI in a 40 over game at the County Ground in Derby on Thursday.
They travel to Leicester University to play a twenty/20 social game against a group of former residents of Uganda a day later.
