Former Vice-President Dr. Specioza Wandira Kazibwe’s marriage to Eng. Charles Kazibwe, has finally been dissolved.

Dr. Kazibwe’s lawyer Paulo Ssebalu said on September 10, 2004, a decree was made confirming her petition to divorce her husband.

The decree required that the one opposing the divorce advanced reasons within six months why it should not be made absolute.

High Court judge Elidad Mwangusya yesterday said the court was satisfied with Dr. Kazibwe’s request to have the marriage permanently dissolved because Eng. Kazibwe did not give any reasons against it.

Eng. Kazibwe had earlier opposed the petition, saying in the Catholic church, where they were married, it was a taboo to divorce without sound reason. However, his wife accused him of battering her and insisted they should be divorced.

Dr. Kazibwe was granted custody of one of their children, Julian Luutu Kizza. Eng. Kazibwe can visit Kizza at school and live with him during holidays. The court also ordered that each party keeps the property registered in their name.
