MPS yesterday mourned Malawi’s parliamentary speaker, Rodwell Munye-nyembe, who died four days ago after collapsing in parliament during a heated debate about the impeachment of president Bingu wa Mutharika.

Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who led the MPs in a one-minute moment of silence for the repose of Munyenyembe’s soul, urged legislators not to risk her and Speaker Edward Sekandi’s lives.
“I would like to urge you not to get involved in heated debates otherwise the Speaker and I will be endangered,” Kadaga said smiling as MPs broke into laughter.

Kadaga said Munye-nyembe, 69, died late on Monday in a South African hospital where he had been airlifted.
