KAYUNGA district local council has passed a sh12b budget for the 2005/2006 financial year.
Reading the budget for his first time, the vice-chairman, Hajji Hamil Kalema, said sh6b was expected from Government transfers.
He told the council and hundreds of Kayunga residents that following the finance minister’s abolition of Graduated Tax, only sh124m was expected from local revenue resources.
Sh1b is expected from donors and NGOs, while sh150m is expected from DANIDA.
Kalema said sh3b would be spent on schools under the school facilitation grants.
He said sh60m would be spent on the improvement of the district local network and the Internet, while sh2b would go to the health sector.
He said sh146m would be spent on the construction of the district block.
“Sh3b will be spent on salary bills, accounting for 37% of the total district budget expenditure,” Kalema said.
District speaker Robert Mutanda said when Kayunga was still under Mukono district, only 30-kilometer roads were up-graded but today over 900 kilometers have been upgraded.
The LC5 chairman, Stephen Dagada, said the 2005/2006 budget would focus on improving household income.
“We want to improve our people’s standards of living,” he said.
