THE Special Revenue Protection Services (SRPS) will organise the Busia smugglers to do proper business, a top official said last week.
Lt. Eric Mugume, the eastern region chief, advised them to write business proposals for assistance. He advised the business community to abandon smuggling.
The SRPS public relations officer, Lt. Bahoku Barigye appealed to the businesspeople to be conscious of the local industries by avoiding smuggling.
He said if Busia traders do not change to legal business, they would suffer because of the East African Customs Union.
Meanwhile, Ali Mambule writes that the Rakai chief finance officer, Erasmus Lubuye, has said taxes in rural areas were regressive especially to the low-income earners.
He was addressing the district tender board and the technical evaluation members at Serona Hotel, recently. Lubuye said the low-income earners were paying many taxes.
