THE first deputy prime minister, Moses Ali, has told former fighters of the defunct rebel groups in West Nile to vote for the Movement government because they still have an agreement to be implemented.

Addressing a Muslim gathering at Taqwa mosque in Yumbe town on Saturday, Ali said the former rebels would have no basis for being paid if the government was changed.

Ali, who is also minister for disaster preparedness, said the NRM government was committed to implementing the peace agreements it signed with the Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF) and Uganda National Rescue Front II (UNRF II).

Moses Ali is the former leader of UNRF whose forces were integrated into the National Resistance Army in July 1986.

West Nile is home to thousands of UNRF II former combatants who, under the leadership of Maj. Gen. Ali Bamuze, abandoned rebellion against the Movement government through a peace deal signed in December 2002.
