KCC should not tamper with Akamwesi Hostel
SIR — The management of Akamwesi Hostel wish to respond to Mayor Ssebaana Kizito’s allegations published in <i>the New Vision<i> of July 11.
SIR — The management of Akamwesi Hostel wish to respond to Mayor Ssebaana Kizito’s allegations published in the New Vision of July 11.
In an article entitled “Katanga hostels illegal — Mayor†it was reported that Akamwesi Hostel is to be demolished because:
The land on which it was constructed does not belong to the proprietor.
It was built without approved plans by KCC.
It is built on a sewer line.
If demolished the owners would not be compensated. The allegations are baseless.
Akamwesi Hostel is built on Plots 29 and 30 Nkizi Road Katonga and registered in the name of Fred Kamunyu, mailo title Instrument Nos. KLA247174 and KLA247176 respectively of March 6, 2003.
The building plans for the the hostel were drawn by M/s Pro-plan Partners, a reputable firm in Kampala and approved by KCC on May 29, 2003.
Akamwesi is not built on top of a sewer line as claimed.
The line passes outside the building and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation approved the connection of the hostel to the sewer line on September 22, 2003.
