THE Sheraton Kampala Hotel now breathes a new air of freshness. The hotel last week opened its newly refurbished lobby, unveiling a new look to its face.
The lobby, at the ground floor, basks in a bevy of modern art, architecture, decor and design. It is a spectacle of beauty, brilliance and grandeur.
I met the Sheraton’s new face this week.
It has improved tremendously from a mundane hotel entrance hall to a vibrant, expansive lobby with modern facilities.
“This is the Sheraton like you have never seen it. The new lobby comes with improved facilities for our customers,†said Kwashie Gbedemah, the director of food and beverage.
From the entrance, the lobby provides a magnificent spectacle.
The main glass door entrance to the lobby leads to an expansive room, beaming with a well-lit and furnished interior. The marble floor and walls, accentuated by the brown and red furnishings, provide a subtle blend of nature and modernity.
The dim spotlights stuck in the white ceiling offer a peaceful lighting with a calming effect.
The lobby spreads out to an expansive lounge with cushioned brown and red sofas. At the left of the entrance is the concierge (the porter desk), a well-furnished desk with modern communication gadgets. it serves as the information desk.
At the extreme right is a modern coffee shop (Park Square) spread with red restaurant chairs and matching curtains. The Park Square oozes a fresh breeze from the main lobby providing a relaxing atmosphere.
The square offers early coffees, quick lunches, high teas and cakes (from the Temptations Cake Shop) and a lobby bar in the evening. Its serene atmosphere offers a conducive environment for meetings.
At the heart of the lobby is a fountain made of white marble slabs and mosaic tiles. The water from the fountain is as clear as that from a natural spring.
Facing the lounge and the fountain is the main front desk — a long and busy desk with a mural of a white painted flower hovering over it from the background.
The lobby remains a busy place with guests walking in and out of the three new arcades and business centre. Activity and elegance meet here.
