THE East African Community (EAC) and the government of the US on Monday signed a technical assistance agreement worth US$566,000 for a feasibility study on the proposed EAC upper flight information region.

The project aims at creating a single block of upper airspace over Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda, operating from a single area control centre, said a statement from the EAC secretariat in Arusha, Tanzania.

The project will ensure efficiency and safety of the airspace, minimise delays and reduce the strain on air traffic controllers.

EAC chief Amanya Mushega signed on behalf of the EAC while the regional director for the United States Trade and Development Agency for sub-Saharan Africa, Ned Cabot signed on behalf of the US.
