DENIS Mpwereirwe finally got something to show for 16 years of competitive golf by winning the Mbarara Invitational Open on Sunday.

The handicap 13 carded 71 stable ford points to win on the par-70 home course in Mbarara.

But Mpwereirwe and his rivals had to contend with a fast course, a condition caused by a long dry spell.

Mpwereirwe could not hide his joy. “Finally I have something to show to my children, they always asked me when I would ever win,” he said.

The ladies award went to Fort Portal entrant Sylvia Kihunde at 63 points.

The event, sponsored by Edward Tumusiime – a former chairman of the club – was to unveil a tractor secured by offers from club members and friends.
