Premier Apolo Nsibambi has invited former Gayaza High School teachers to take up Ugandan citizenship

Premier Apolo Nsibambi has invited former Gayaza High School teachers to take up Ugandan citizenship, reports Josephine Maseruka.

During a thanksgiving service to mark the school’s centenary at St. Paul’s Cathedral, namirembe, on Sunday, Nsibambi said parliament was in the process of repealing laws to allow dual citizenship.

At the four-hour service, the retired teachers from Britain included former headmistresses Joan Cox and Sheelagh Warren, and teachers Ann Cutler and Janice Hobday.

Hobday, a music teacher, sang a solo How beautiful are the feet, which thrilled hundreds of guests, including Kabaka Ronald Mutebi and the Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and Esther Nsibambi.

Betty Bigombe, an Old Girl and the chief negotiator with rebel leader Joseph Kony, said she was inspired by the school motto, Never Give Up.

Archibishop Luke Orombi urged the school to bring up morally-upright ladies.

Beatrice Byenkya, (Woman MP, Hoima) sang a solo, The voice of Joy, while Dr. Lydia Mpanga Sebuyira of Hospice Uganda sang Light up your candle as the congregation lit candles symbolising that the Gayaza flame must spread across nations.
