KIGEZI High School and Kigezi College Butobere have been closed following strikes that paralysed Kabale town on Friday.

Kigezi High School students fought with the Police, forcing the school board of governors to close the school.

While running away from the highway Police patrol, students lost property on their way to Kabale town.

The Police detained eight students suspected to have led the strike.

The students first attacked the food master, Abraham Akampurira, at his home on Thursday night, blaming him for not properly running the dinning hall.

Some complained of poor diet compared to the high school fees.
Kigezi High School headmaster John Gimuguni declined to comment.

“Please, report what you have seen. I have been away in Mbarara.”

The students vandalised Akampurira’s residence, forcing him to flee with his family. No one was hurt.

School property worth millions of shillings was destroyed.

At Butobere, students refused to attend classes and to eat.

The headmaster, Adolf Kisembo and the school board of governors met the student leaders but failed to agree.

Anticipating trouble, the board of governors and the education ministry closed the school on Friday.
The students demanded that the six students recently suspended indefinitely be returned, but the board did not agree.
