Dear Samson,
I am 50, with two wives whom I love. But for sometime now, I have lost sexual interest or desire. Each wife is complaining that I am ignoring her and more interested in the other. This is not true. I am simply not having sex with any of them. How can you help me?

Samson

Dear Samson,
According to researchers, from time to time, during adulthood, most men and women experience sexual problems. And loss of desire or interest in sex is one of them.
Transient interference with sexual desire and appetite is normal. But interruption that continues for days or weeks or months (inhibited sexual desire) can be a signal of some deep-seated medical or emotional problem that should be looked into.
Inhibited sexual desire is the diminishment of desire due to one of the several psychological or physiological problems. For example:
Illness or hormonal deficiencies (a hormone is a chemical produced by organs and glands in the body. Hormones are produced and carried through the blood stream to deliver instructions to other glands and organs that help maintain the healthy functioning of the body including your penis).
Depression, anger, guilt, grief or hostility can cause sexual problems.
Breakdown of communication between you and your pattern can have a negative effect on your sex life.
The first step is to evaluate your true feeling toward yourself and your partners. Then get a medical evaluation. However, bear in mind that various factors that build up to inhibition of the desire tend to accumulate over long periods of time and may take considerable time to resolve. It is hard enough to maintain one healthy relationship; it must be extra hard to maintain two.
