UGANDAN coffee and tourism continue to be the biggest attractions at the Aichi Expo 2005, a Uganda Exports Promotion Board monthly report on the expo indicates.
The report says coffee sampling at the Ugandan counter has continued as Zigoti Coffee joined the show.
“We have scored a physical achievement because M/S Wataru and Company has been able to buy 18 and 15 tonnes of coffee from Kawacom and Bugisu Cooperative Union respectively.
“So far, 18 tonnes have been received,” says the report.
It said the company intends to increase this amount to 100 tonnes of coffee per year and has planned to visit Uganda in November to see what is on ground and effect agreements.
On tourism, the report says the gorilla, Hanacha, and its baby have attracted various people to the Ugandan pavilion.
“Many tourists have expressed interest in visiting Uganda’s gorilla sanctuary in the next few months,” the report said.
However, the report said other products like cocoa, papain and vanilla have not yet generated interest.
Ugandans are also preparing for the national day where they will showcase the Ugandan products and culture.
The expo, which began in March this year, has so far attracted 12.5 million people with 1.2 million of those recorded at the African stands.
