KADIC hospital has offered to treat a 12-year-old boy, Rogers Dumba, whose intestines are hanging out of his body.
Dr. William Obote, a senior surgeon at the hospital, will carry out the operation, Dr Robert Ntende, the hospital operations manager, said on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Standard Chartered bank corporate affairs head Harriet Musoke said the bank had opened up an account 0150112969000 in Dumba’s name. Anyone willing to offer assistance can bank the money on the account.
By press time, over 18 people and organisations had registered with The New Vision pledging to help Dumba (right).
This follows a story in The New Vision on Wednesday which highlighted Dumba’s plight.
“I will join the rest of the people to help this boy. What surprised me is the boy’s resolve. Despite the problem, he has persisted for years and attended class. Many normal children dodge school. such a boy is extraordinary and needs help,” the Inspector general of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, said on phone.
Dumba, a primary five pupil at St. Thomas Bazade primary school in Bweyogerere, was born with an imperforate anus. He has had two operations at Mulago hospital.
At home, Dumba shares a mattress with three siblings. His headteacher said the public response would help Dumba meet his other needs.
Dumba’s father thanked The New Vision for the publicity.
