THE Banyankore Cultural Foundation (BCF) has lauded President Yoweri Museveni for refusing to grant the restoration of Obugabe (Ankore monarchy).

BCF chairman Kesi Nyakimwe on Saturday said the President acted wisely to block the installation of Prince John Barigye as the king of Ankore.

Kesi said Museveni and most Banyankore rejected the installation of Barigye and re-establishment of the monarchy because it was divisive, useless and unpopular.

Kesi was speaking at the launch of the Rukiga- Runyankore-Rugyereza dictionary at Kabale University.

Supreme Court Judge George Kanyeihamba presided over the ceremony and called upon the Bakiga and Banyankore to promote their languages and cultures.

He said any community without a culture, norms and rules was doomed and that although he was married to a white woman, he was teaching his children Rukiga.

Prof. Jean Barya of Makerere University, Dani Kireju, and other Ankore elders attended.
