Tonight is Michael Jackson Nite at Ange Mystique. “People will come in as early as 8:00pm. We shall be showing Michael Jackson DVDs, a bit of his biography and giving out prizes for the person who dresses the closest to, dances and sings like Michael Jackson,” says Charlie Lubega, Angenoir Discotheque proprietor. He says the prizes will include DVDs, CDs and a Michael Jackson portrait. The night will be the official launch of Star Nite, which will take place every second Friday of the month.

Generation Boyz set for Kenya
The Generation Boyz, a local gospel music quintet, will take their talent yet a step further when they perform live in concerts in Nakuru, Kenya today. The group was invited by Barney Mungo, youth vice chairman of the Charismata youths, a ministry under the
Charismata Revival Church. Jimmy Kiyimba, a group member, said the performance was a one-day event. The Generation Boyz returned a fortnight ago from their premier African tour code-named ‘Life with Jesus’ that saw them visit Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia in an attempt to promote their music label internationally. During the tour, the boys were hosted on the prestigious Lusaka-based Christian Voice Radio, which covers southern, central and Eastern Africa.

Bebe Cool in sh56m deal
Ugandan ragga star Bebe Cool and Kenyan hip-hop Necessary duo Noize have bagged sh56m from Out/Here Records, a German music label for their joint song, Africa Unite. The song was purchased at 25,000 euros (sh56m). The song, done in one-drop roots reggae style, is about the trials and tribulations Africans undergo as a result of wars and famine across the continent. The artistes call upon African leaders to spearhead the struggle to unify Africa. According to Out/Here officials, the song will be included on a compilation of other songs by African artistes, whose theme is in line with uniting. The CD is to be sold in all African countries, USA and Europe.

Bukedde artist for road safety
Gospel crooner, Isaac Okello aka Izo, has ventured into road safety using songs. His new single, Accelerator, discourages reckless driving amongst motorists. In the song, Izo is digusted by the huge number of Ugandans, who die in road accidents every year. “Imagine this scenario: In 2000, 12 people died in road accidents in Sweden and the Swedish demonstrated in protest. In Uganda, 200 lives were lost, but it just passes unattended to,” says the smokey-voiced singer. Accelerator was produced by David Kalanzi from his Muyenga-based Maestro Sounds studio. The Afro-pop single is played on Radio Simba, Akaboozi, CBS fm and Top Radio.

Eagles for big return concert
Eagle’s Production is set for a big concert at Nile Hotel’s Parking Yard on August 19, starting 7:00pm. The performance, dubbed ‘The Return of the Eagles’ is intended to give the band’s local fans the opportunity to welcome their music icons back from their European tour. The eagles has organised a related concert at Ggaba Beach on August 21, starting at 2:00pm.

Benon, Vamposs release an album
Benon and Vamposs, the duo best known for their 2003 R & B hit, Nsazeewo, have completed recording their latest album, My Lady. The album has 16 songs, which were recorded at Steve Jean’s AV1 studios. The title track, My Lady, is getting adequate airplay on the FM radio stations. The also has another track, Mumuleete, which they first showcased before the public at General Mega Dee’s album last Friday.

PAM Awards secret leaked?
Rumours were rife on August 8, when PAM Awards magazine publishers went about looking for photos of Fred Masagazi (in picture), a veteran musician. It was suspected he was one of the lucky four nominated for the prestigious Lifetime Achievement PAM Award. This, unlike other PAM categories, is not open to public vote. “I won’t say whether he has been selected. We want this to be a surprise,” Isaac Mulindwa, said.
