THE Ntungamo district internal security officer (DISO), Lt. Patrick Edemacu, is dead.
UPDF 2nd Division spokesman Lt. Chris Magezi said Edemacu was killed during a fire exchange with suspected armed robbers at around midnight on Tuesday.
Four thugs were killed by security operatives during the exchange.
Magezi said the edemacu had led a team of policemen, local defence unit and other security operatives to a house in Kizinga village, Ntungamo district near the Uganda-Rwanda border where the suspects were hiding.
Documents recovered from the bodies identified the three dead robbers as Mazur Ndabaramye, Muhinzya Ndababonye and Murenzi from Nyagatare in Rwanda.
Security operatives also recovered one SMG rifle and 13 bullets.
Magezi said the fourth robber was a Ugandan of Rwandese origin identified as James Muhereza, who has two homes in Ntungamo town.
Magezi said there had been a spate of robberies in Ntungamo and surrounding districts.
He said, “Whenever they would be cornered, they would flee to the neighbouring Tanzania or Rwanda.â€
“The late Edemacu was hardworking and enthusiastic about his job. We are only comforted in the fact that he has not died in vain. We will miss him. “The battle against armed thugs is on and security agencies will not rest until we arrest all of them,†Magezi said.
