WINNING a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship and running a season’s world best in 3000m steeplechase is not enough for Dorcus Inzikuru, who now wants to set a new world record over the distance.
The Helsinki world championship gold medallist left the country Wednesday evening for Zurich, Switzerland, where she will train with her Italian coach Renato Canova, before heading for Riet, Italy, for her next race.
Inzikuru skipped the Zurich race due tonight to recover after a two-day hectic visit home where she was showered with praises for her achievement.
Parliament held a special session for her on Tuesday. A mammoth crowd was at Entebbe Airport and lined along Kampala streets to receive her.
“We will be have a pace setter and I think she will help me run a faster time. It might sound ambitious but I will give it a try,” said the star, who believes she has not acquired enough techniques to jump over the hurdles.
Her local manager Flavio Pasqualato confirmed that she will take part in the 3000m steeplechase in both events before she returns for a break.
Fourth placed finisher in 10000m in the Helsinki championship, Boniface Kiprop, will also be back in the country on September 12 after taking part in the IAAF Athletics final.
Kiprop, who will also skip today’s race in Zurich, will however take part in the Memorial Van Damme golden league leg in Brussels.
Meanwhile, Moses Kipsiro came back to nurse an injury and rest before resuming training for next year’s IAAF cross country championships.
